Chakarghinni is a thrilling tale inspired by a real criminal incident related to the Mumbai underworld.
Several years ago, the Indian government’s Income Tax Department introduced an amnesty scheme called the Voluntary Income Declaration Scheme (VDIS) for income tax evaders. Mumbai’s notorious Dawood gang obtained a list of all the businessmen and industrialists who had taken advantage of VDIS and started to threaten them one by one, demanding their share of the unreported income. The Dawood gang managed to recover 10% of the undeclared income from those who complied with their demands. Despite the illegality of the situation, no one dared to complain. As a crime reporter for Jansatta, the author covered this story and was inspired to turn it into a gripping narrative.

Chakarghinni is a novel that has been adapted from a screenplay. Although this practice is not new, it differs from the movie Adrishya written by Vivek Agarwal because the novel has been written after the screenplay. The story is light-hearted and entertaining, with elements of comedy and thrilling suspense.
It is just a screenwriting adoption in a novel form and therefore, readers looking for a literary work may be disappointed. Similarly, readers seeking facts and logical coherence may not find anything exceptional in the book. Nevertheless, Chakarghinni is an engaging and popular read that will delight those seeking a good story.
